However, the risk of developing BRONJ and implant failure is quite high. Risk factors such as the type of BP received, the route of administration, and the length of treatment prior to surgery should be considered
2023-03-24T00:00:00+00:00 Copyright (c) 2023 https://sciencebase.in/index.php/JSIB/article/view/129 Cast Removable Partial Denture Improving Dentate Function: A Case Report 2023-07-08T13:00:57+00:00 V.Sreedevi bharathichaturvedula@gmail.com S. The wavelengths of laser radiation are well-defined and predictable, and indeed the radiation seems to be more powerful at these wavelengths than can be produced by traditional light sources. Sutures are rarely indicated, there is very little possibility of mechanical trauma, and there is little scarring caused by lasers. The high proportion of patient acceptance of laser dentistry is one of its great advantages. Today’s patients are aware of lasers' benefits. Today's dental lasers are portable, lightweight, compact, and becoming ever more accessible. Considering lasers used in dentistry, the prognosis seems optimistic. Practitioners can benefit from this new technology through knowing further about lasers and this form of light's attributes. This review article discusses about recent advancements of laser and its implications in periodontology.
2023-03-24T00:00:00+00:00 Copyright (c) 2023 https://sciencebase.in/index.php/JSIB/article/view/131 Incidence and Assessment of Cleft Lip and Palate Patients Visiting Nitte Meenakshi Institute of Craniofacial Surgery, Kshema, Deralakatte Mangaluru - A Retrospective Study 2023-07-08T17:38:51+00:00 Dr. Saurabh Mohan Gohil bharathichaturvedula@gmail.com Dr. Vikram Shetty bharathichaturvedula@gmail.com Dr. Shreyas Gupte bharathichaturvedula@gmail.com Dr. Rinku Kalra bharathichaturvedula@gmail.com Dr. Thomson Mariadasan Dcruz bharathichaturvedula@gmail.com Dr. Jitesh Sharma bharathichaturvedula@gmail.com
Cleft lip with or without cleft palate is the most common orofacial congenital anomaly among live births. This study was carried out to determine the incidence of cleft lip and palate in patients reporting to Nitte Meenakshi Institute of Craniofacial Surgery during 2010-2014. The study was performed on 1080 patients reporting in OPD of Nitte Meenakshi Institute of Craniofacial Surgery during 2010-2014. All patients were screened for oral clefts. Demographic data including age, gender, religion, province and type of oral clefts were recorded for analysis. Of total 1080 patients, male:female ratio was 0.9:1; 55.37% were Hindus, 35.28% were Muslims and 9.35% were Christians. Kerala:Karnataka ratio was 1.45:1. The age distribution was 0-10years ( 43%) > 11-20years (41%) > 21-30years (14%) > 31- 40years (2%). The incidence of cleft lip was 351/1080 (32.5%) of which 267 (76.07%) were complete unilateral cases and 62 (17.66%) were complete bilateral cases and 22 (6.27%) were incomplete unilateral cases. The incidence of cleft alveolus was 335/1080 (31.02%) of which 273 (81.49%) were complete unilateral cases and 36 (18.51%) were complete bilateral cases. The incidence of cleft hard-palate was 310/1080 (24%) and that of cleft soft-palate was 84/1080 (6%). The data in this study seems to be of limited size for area as-well-as patients. Most of the studies in literature on this subject is few and inadequate. Environmental and genetic focused studies should be carried out for better understanding and providing better prevention and care to these patients.
2023-03-24T00:00:00+00:00 Copyright (c) 2023 https://sciencebase.in/index.php/JSIB/article/view/137 Hyaluronic Acid Uses in Oral Health 2023-07-13T14:21:59+00:00 N.Aravindha Babu bharathichaturvedula@gmail.com B.Ishwariya bharathichaturvedula@gmail.com
Hyaluronic acid is an essential component of connective tissue. It is present in the extracellular matrix of tissues, synovial fluid, and other bodily fluids. Its biological activity results from their interaction with growth factors, osmotic pressure regulation, and tissue lubrication. All of these functions support the preservation of the tissue's homeostatic and structural integrity. The majority of cells in the body produce hyaluronic acid, which is synthesized in the cell membrane by a membrane-bound protein and secreted into the extracellular space, primarily by fibroblasts, when endotoxins are present. In dentistry, hyaluronic acid has evidenced anti-inflammatory, antiedematous, antibacterial, and wound healing properties that are helpful in the treatment of many oral diseases like periodontitis, which is caused by various bacteria present in subgingival plaque with mechanical therapy that causes tissue regeneration. This type of treatment might benefit many individuals, particularly those who are predisposed to systemic disorders such as cardiovascular disease and diabetes caused by periodontal disease.
2023-03-24T00:00:00+00:00 Copyright (c) 2023 https://sciencebase.in/index.php/JSIB/article/view/138 Periodontics as a Practice Builder-A Review 2023-07-13T14:50:55+00:00 DR.J.SELVAKUMAR bharathichaturvedula@gmail.com Dr. SANTHIYA RENGARAJ bharathichaturvedula@gmail.com
Periodontology is one of the recent specialties in dentistry and can be said to have had its root as a specialty in 1914 with the founding of the American Academy of Periodontology. This article aims to provide information on the history of periodontology, which can be used to reinforce previous periodontology knowledge, assess one’s current level of understanding in light of today’s expanded body of knowledge, and look to the future with confidence that periodontics will play a significant role in one’s dental practise and help solve many of the problems recently mentioned. With improvements in the ability to detect, prevent disease and halt its progression, and repair missing periodontium, the area of periodontics is quickly evolving. To maintain overall health, all dental infections must be treated, including gingivitis and periodontitis. As patients come to recognise the significance of oral health to overall health, opportunities for early diagnosis and prevention will play a larger part in dental practise in the future. Education about the value of periodontal health for the general public is urgently needed. All of these data suggest that periodontal disease needs to be seen from a whole new angle, and a prospective approach of prevention and early intervention in treating the illness is more crucial than ever.
2023-03-24T00:00:00+00:00 Copyright (c) 2023 https://sciencebase.in/index.php/JSIB/article/view/139 Orthodontic management of Supernumerary teeth with modified Hooks – A Case Report 2023-07-13T16:55:10+00:00 Dr Thailavathy V bharathichaturvedula@gmail.com Dr Diana Ashok bharathichaturvedula@gmail.com Dr Mohan Pradeep R bharathichaturvedula@gmail.com
A Supernumary tooth present in the midline is called mesiodens.
